Ruby

Ruby is the red form of corundum and is found globally, with the very best quality stones being found in Burma. Ruby occurs in both alluvial deposits and igneous and metamorphic rocks.
It is most often cut in a faceted form but can sometimes be cut en cabochon to reveal a star effect if rutile inclusions are present.
It is also the birthstone for July and the chosen gift for a celebrant of their 40th wedding anniversary.
