Tahitian & South Sea

The only naturally black pearls on the world markets are cultured in the seas around Tahiti and Polynesia and are produced in a large black-lipped oyster. They are thus quite large pearls starting at 8mm in size. It is also possible to obtain large white cultured pearls from the South Seas where they are cultured in the world’s largest oyster; Pinctada Maxima off the coast of Western Australia. More recently natural cream and gold South Sea pearls have been cultured around the coast of Indonesia. Good quality Tahitian and South Sea pearls can be among the most valuable pearls in the world.
