Natural Origins & Characteristics of Tahitian & South Sea Pearls
Tahitian and South Sea pearls are both known for their size, beauty, and stunning lustre. Tahitian pearls, grown in pinctada margaritifera oyster in French Polynesia, standout with their deep, dark colours and unique metallic shine. South Sea pearls, produced in the largest pinctada maxima oyster in Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, are prized for their silky glow and range of colours, from creamy whites to rich golds.
Size Range
Both Tahitian and South Sea Pearls are known from their impressive size, starting at 8mm and ranging to 20mm.
Cultivation Process
Tahitian Pearls are cultivated in black-lipped oysters, and they typically take 2-3 years to form, whereas South Sea Pearls are cultivated in white-lipped oysters, and they usually take 3-5 years to form.

Tahitian and South Sea Pearls
at Cellini
At Cellini, Tahitian and South Sea pearls are the perfect choice for bespoke designs. Their rare, natural beauty makes them ideal for custom pieces that reflect individuality. Tahitian pearls, with their rich, dark tones, ranging from silver and gunmetal to peacock and aubergine overtones, add an exotic touch. South Sea pearls, known for their size and glowing lustre, exude classic luxury in silver-toned white, champagne, and intense gold. Whether set in necklaces, earrings, or rings, these pearls are perfect for any occasion.

In–House Pearl Stringing
At Cellini, we expertly string and restring pearls in-house, using traditional techniques and the finest materials. Pearls are strung on silk with hand-tied knots between each pearl if desired for a classic, lasting drape. For the best care of your jewellery, we recommend having it restrung every 1–2 years if worn frequently, or every 3–5 years if worn occasionally.
